Breath of the Sea, 2006-7
The sea breathes. The elements of life- carbon, hydrogen, oxygen- combine in the upper layers of the ocean, in vast sheets of phytoplankton and algae, to become organic molecules and free oxygen. These are broken back down inside living cells and returned to the sea and sky. The molecular dance of Shiva.
At the surface, where we live, these miraculous processes are driven by light, wind, and waves. We can see the sea’s breath in the breaking of waves, the leaping of spray, in fog and mist, in light.
